What I most enjoyed about this book was NOT the teen romance, the sword-fighting, or the hunt for Eden (a humans-only city), but what I enjoy most about all vampire narratives: the part where the vampire passes as human. ' A gripping story about a Fringer (unregistered human) in a post-apocalyptic world run by vampires the hook is that she gets turned almost immediately (not a spoiler-it's in the flap copy) but tries to stay human in her actions.

Allie was an awesome main character and leading lady, and in general this novel was just really well thought out, executed and written. If course this novel does have some similarities with other books of the genre - how could it not? But at the same time, Julie Kagawa manages to give it a new spin.
